As mentioned in my last post here are some photos from my recent visit to Newcastle Upon Tyne. Despite the fact that it was the end of January the weather was crisp and clear giving me the opportunity to take some shots in the sunshine with relatively clear skies.
The walk along Newcastle Quayside provides plenty of photo opportunities including the Tyne Bridge, the Millennium Bridge (also known as the Blinking Eye), and The Sage building over the river in Gateshead.
From what I gather the Quayside in Newcastle has undergone a massive transformation compared to how it was 15 or 20 years ago, it is now a great place to stroll along with the family during the day and has plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants and so gets pretty lively at night.
The Sage is a fantastic looking modern building, I had never heard of it or seen it before so was really surprised when I first saw it across the river.
It is probably about 25 years since I was last in Newcastle city centre, I used to go shopping there regularly when visiting my grandparents but we stopped going into the city when the Metro Centre was built. It is a shame that I didn’t have time to wander around more, the Quayside has many modern architectural gems but I am sure that the city centre itself has many great Victorian buildings. I will save them for another time.
